Exp 01 AM: Risky Play Roundtable & They’re Not Being Defiant!” Reframing Behaviour from a Neuro-relational Perspective

Morning Session: Join Rusty Keeler in a facilitated conversation about all things risky play. Together we’ll reflect on our yes’s and no’s and why's and then visualize how to say yes more. We’ll tap the wisdom of the group to hear risky play successes, challenges, and questions. We’ll discuss the benefits of risky play, new ways to support it, and how to communicate with licensing and parents about risky play. Together we’ll form a community and support each other in supporting risky play! 

Afternoon Session: Human behaviour is complex, which means our approach to supporting children’s development requires us to think holistically. This means moving away from previous and potentially harmful ways that we used to look at children’s behaviour. This session will help participants understand the paradigm shifts necessary to support a whole-child approach to guiding children’s participation. Participants will investigate the impact of relational safety versus a traditional approach to responding to behavior; reconsider their understanding of the cause of behaviour, their expectations of neurodiverse children, and the importance of a common approach for an integrated support plan; and, they will have a chance to practice reframing children’s behaviour through the use of scenarios and group discussion
