Submission #2482

As a parent to a child with special needs, it is incredibly important to me and my family to know that our child is receiving the care and attention he deserves throughout the day. As a working parent, I don’t have the option to be at home with my child every day, but knowing he is at a centre where they treat him like their own son is extremely comforting. Knowing that the extra supports he needs throughout the day are being addressed with care and compassion is our top priority.
Pedagogical support positions are not just “nice to have” in our centre. They literally ensure the safety and well being of our child both through direct care, and indirectly through supporting other staff. Without these positions, our daycare centre would not function.
Our childcare centre has been directly impacted by the recent cut backs. As a parent, I am very uneasy about how this may impact my child and his extra needs. I worry that with reduced staff, he may be overlooked and that his development may suffer. This must be rectified!
