Submission #2485

By Megan McPhee

When I began working in the Early Childhood Education field there were no Pedagogical (PED) Support Staff in the centre I worked at.
We were constantly scrambling to get planning done for daily activities and meaningful experiences. We were being spread thin as the lead ECEs in the room, and did not have enough time to provide the level of care each child deserved.

When I moved and began working at a different centre that had just introduced PED Support Staff to our team, it was totally different.
We had time to leave the classroom and get important documentation done, to plan for events and experience that would enrich the child’s educational experiences, and to tend to children who needed more 1-1 time with us.

We are constantly being expected to provide gold standard care as early childhood educators and we just cannot do that without the Pedagogical Support Staff in our centres. They are without a doubt critical to both the children they care for and for their fellow staff members to have the best experience possible.
