Submission #2467

By Megan McPhee

I work full-time as a pedagogical support staff member in an early childhood centre, and I see every day how important this role is.

My job is to support educators, help them understand children’s needs, and strengthen the quality of care and learning in our centre. I work alongside staff to reflect, plan, and create environments where children feel safe, included and able to grow. This support makes a real difference—not just for educators, but for every child in our care.

If funding for pedagogical positions is cut, that support disappears. Educators will be left with heavier workloads and less guidance, which will directly affect the quality of care children receive. It will also increase stress and burnout in a field that is already struggling to retain staff.

For me, this is not just a job. It is work I care deeply about. I believe children deserve strong, thoughtful early learning environments, and pedagogical support helps make that possible.

I urge decision-makers to reconsider this cut. Removing these roles will have lasting negative impacts on educators, centres ,families and most importantly, children.
