Cook- Early Learning Centre

The Early Learning Centre is seeking a dedicated and organized Cook to join our team. You will play an essential role in supporting the health and wellbeing of the children in our centre. Key responsibilities include: • Plan and rotate four-week meal/snack menus in accordance with national nutrition guidelines and the cultural diversity of children. • Prepare and serve nutritious meals and snacks daily in a hygienic and timely manner. • Order or purchase food and kitchen supplies within the established budget, ensuring vouchers/invoices are accurate. • Receive and store deliveries while maintaining an organized and sanitary kitchen environment. • Monitor stock levels, rotate inventory, and ensure quality and safety of food products. • Maintain high standards of kitchen hygiene and cleanliness per the Food Premises Act. • Communicate daily with Early Childhood Educators about children’s dietary needs, allergies, or schedule changes. • Welcome and support practicum students and contribute positively to the team environment. • Attend staff meetings, training sessions (e.g., WHMIS, Food Handler’s), and professional development events. • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills
• High School Diploma required. Previous experience as a cook, preferably in a daycare or school setting, is considered an asset. • Must hold a valid Food Handling Certificate or be willing to obtain. WHMIS training is considered an asset. • Knowledge of basic nutrition, special dietary requirements, and food safety practices. • Ability to work independently, stay organized, and operate within a set budget. • Strong communication skills. • Please note, the successful candidate will be required to provide a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check. • Proof of credentials or equivalencies from accredited regional or federal post-secondary institutions and/or their foreign equivalents will be required at the time of job offer.
